The Institute of Chinese Classics at Nanchang University was established in 2009, along with the Experimental Class of Chinese Linguistics and Literature (Sinology Class). This class offers a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree program, and students meeting the eligibility criteria for admission without examination are recommended for Master's studies.

    After nearly fifteen years of practice and exploration, the Experimental Class of Chinese Linguistics and Literature (Sinology Class) has gradually formed a training model that "implements three mechanisms, explores three models, and cultivates three abilities". It has created a distinctive curriculum system that integrates literature, history, and philosophy to cultivate top-notch innovative talents in Chinese Classics. The curriculum is based on fundamental classics of traditional Chinese scholarship, using the twenty-odd books mentioned by Mr. Huang Kan as its foundation: the Thirteen Confucian Classics, Shuo Wen Jie Zi and Guang Yun from the Classics section; the Shih Chi, Han Shu, Hou Han Shu, History of the Three Kingdoms from the History section; the Lao Zi, Zhuang Zi, and Xun Zi from the Philosophy section; The Songs of Chu, Zhaoming Wenxuan, and The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons from the Literature section; and Qiu Zha'ao's Detailed Annotations on Du Fu's Poems, supplemented by carefully selected Western and Indian classics as foundational courses. Meanwhile, some courses in classical Chinese arts, such as Chinese painting, calligraphy, traditional Chinese opera, and Tai Chi, are offered as electives to enhance students' traditional cultural literacy and cultivate their noble humanistic sentiments.

    The talent cultivation effect of the Experimental Class of Chinese Linguistics and Literature (Sinology Class) has been highly recognized by peers in top-tier universities across the country. The teaching reform project of the Institute of Chinese Classics, "Reform and Practice of Cultivating Top-notch Innovative Talents in Local High-Level Universities", won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award in Higher Education. At the 4th "Lixia Forum" Doctoral Academic Forum hosted by the Advanced Institute of Confucian Studies of Shandong University, 15 outstanding papers were selected nationwide, including 7 papers from alumni of the Experimental Class of Chinese Classics at Nanchang University. At the first "Liyun Historical Forum" hosted by the School of History of Beijing Normal University, 4 papers from students of the Experimental Class of Chinese Classics were selected, ranking among the top universities in terms of the number of selected papers.

    From 2009 to 2019, the students in the Experimental Class of Chinese Classical Studies won 48 national-level awards and 150 provincial-level awards. More than 97% of the undergraduates were recommended for admission to Double First-Class universities for further studies, and the doctoral rate was around 20%.
