The Jiluan Academy of Nanchang University is named after Mr. Pan Jiluan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former president of Nanchang University. It serves as a demonstration base for cultivating top-notch innovative talents at Nanchang University.

    The history of cultivating top talents at Nanchang University can be traced back to 1994, when Academician Pan Jiluan, then president of Nanchang University, proposed the concept of "cultivating outstanding talents in a superior way" and began the initial exploration of cultivating top talents. In 2008, Nanchang University established the Experimental Class of Combined B.S./M.S. Program (now named the "the Experimental Class of Huang Kezhi Basic Science and Technology Disciplines"), followed by the Experimental Class of Chinese Linguistics and Literature (Sinology Class) in 2009, and a Comprehensive Experimental Class in 2014. In 2015, to achieve "integrated management, diversified training, and open operation" for the experimental classes cultivating top-notch innovative talents, Jiluan Academy was officially established. Subsequently, in response to national strategic needs and based on the local characteristics of Jiangxi, the Academy launched the Experimental Class of Artificial Intelligence in 2019, the Experimental Class of New Functional Materials and Technology, an Experimental Class for New Structural Economics, and the Experimental Class of RE (rare earth) Innovative Talent Training Program in 2020, and the Experimental Class of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc in 2023. The eight experimental classes cover science, engineering, and humanities, forming a complete system for cultivating top-notch innovative talents.

    Jiluan Academy adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating talent through character education, taking "extensive learning, careful inquiry, prudent thinking, and clear discernment" as its motto. It upholds the educational philosophy of "interdisciplinary learning, integration of science and education, personalized development, and collaborative education," and deeply promotes a talent cultivation model of "three-pronged approach, three-system approach, and three-integration"; a teaching model of "personalized, small-class, and internationalized" learning; a management model of "mentorship system, academy system, and credit system"; and an educational model that     integrates teaching and nurturing, theory and practice, and in-class and extracurricular activities. Through cultural activities such as the "Academician and Dean Forum," "Boya Forum," and "Distinguished Professor Lectures," the Academy gathers domestic and international academic masters and industry experts to participate in the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, fostering an innovative culture, cultivating excellent academic style, and striving to cultivate a group of social elites, international celebrities, outstanding alumni, and pillars of the nation who dare to "pursue ideals, forge new paths, overcome difficulties, and scale new heights."

    Jiluan Academy guides the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents through high-quality Party building, creating an educational environment that integrates Party building leadership, ideological and political education, learning and life, exchange and discussion, library reading, sports and fitness, and other academic and cultural activities. It explores a new era academy management mechanism that integrates "immersion, nurturing, influence, and education," and has constructed a "Party building + Three-Complete and Four-Self" ideological and political education system. It fully leverages the educational functions of "life navigation," "professional guidance," "psychological protection," and "career assistance," guiding students to become practitioners of "Four Self-educations"—self-learning, self-management, self-education, and self-development—and cultivating students into well-rounded individuals capable of shouldering the important task of national rejuvenation.

    Jiluan Academy respects the diverse needs of its students, providing facilities such as a Party member activity room, seminar rooms, a gym, a book bar, a coffee shop, an academic lecture hall, and self-study rooms, creating a positive learning atmosphere, a relaxing environment, and spaces for exchange for over 1,000 students. The Academy's management team is based in the building, providing close support to students in areas such as career development planning, professional skills growth, fostering innovation, and enhancing overall quality, subtly conveying care and nurturing talent.

    In recent years, students of the Academy have won over 1,800 provincial and national awards in academic competitions, including over 800 national awards. They have published over 90 patents and over 200 papers in core Chinese journals. Approximately 90% of graduates pursue further studies at universities included in the Double First-Class University, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, or internationally renowned universities, with nearly 20% directly pursuing doctoral degrees. The Academy has also produced outstanding individuals such as recipients of the "China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award", the "Bao Steel Education Special Prize for Outstanding Students", and candidates for the "National Upward and Virtuous Youth" award. The Academy's student Party branch was recognized as a "National Model Branch for Party Building and Innovation", and its "Nanchang University's College-Based Management System for Top-Tier Innovative Talents" was approved as a "National Excellent Project for Ideological and Political Work in Higher Education Institutions". The Academy's model for cultivating top-tier innovative talents has been featured in in-depth reports by media outlets such as Guangming Daily, China Education Daily, People's Daily Online, and Xinhua News Agency.

    In 2024, to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and fulfill the strategic task of "comprehensively improving the quality of independent talent cultivation and focusing on cultivating top-notch innovative talents," the Academy began to implement "integrated management of teaching and student affairs," and was entrusted by the Academic Affairs Office to be responsible for the top-level design and organization and coordination of the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents for undergraduates across the university. The new Jiluan Academy will follow the laws of the growth of top-notch talents, strengthen mission-driven development, emphasize the guidance of leading experts, innovate teaching methods, promote individualized instruction, facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, industry-education integration, and the integration of science and education, deepen domestic and international cooperation, further improve the selection and cultivation mechanism for top-notch innovative talents, build a distinctive education system for top-notch innovative talents, and strive to cultivate qualified builders and reliable successors of socialism who are both virtuous and talented, and who are both socialist-minded and professionally competent.
