Introduction to the Experimental Class of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc

    To overcome the "bottleneck" problems in high-end manufacturing and help Jiangxi Province build a trillion-yuan-level electronic information industry ecosystem led by intelligent manufacturing and focusing on integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, network communication, and semiconductor micro-processing equipment, Nanchang University, in collaboration with Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. China (AMEC) and other institutions, jointly established the Nanchang University Intelligent Internet of Things and Micro-Processing Industry College (hereinafter referred to as the Industry College), which was approved as one of the first batch of key modern industry colleges in Jiangxi Province in 2022. To further implement the new engineering education concept of "demand-driven, interdisciplinary, science and education collaborative, and industry-education integration", and to explore and optimize the cooperation resources among government, universities, and enterprises, Nanchang University and AMEC, based on their strategic cooperation agreement, decided to establish the "the Experimental Class of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc", aiming to cultivate outstanding innovative talents for the future semiconductor field.

    The Experimental Class of Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc, which enrolled its first cohort in 2023, adopts a comprehensive management model that integrates a dual-mentor system (university and enterprise), a credit system, and a project-based approach. Leveraging high-quality teaching resources from both the university and enterprises, and guided by the needs of the semiconductor industry, it emphasizes cultivating students' engineering practice, innovation, engineering design, and problem-solving abilities. The goal is to develop students into future semiconductor elites with distinctive professional characteristics and an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. Graduates primarily enter enterprises to support the transformation and upgrading of the semiconductor intelligent industry. The Academy and enterprises jointly develop talent training programs aimed at improving students' engineering qualities, practical abilities, and fostering innovative spirit, constructing a practical teaching system that is both interconnected and relatively independent of theoretical teaching. Employing a "teaching-in-production, production-in-teaching" approach, it utilizes innovative teaching models and methods to promote project-based, case-based, and team-based learning. Based on students' cognitive patterns and learning characteristics, the program integrates coursework with internships and practical training, employing dual mentors from both the university and enterprises, and using companies like AMEC as primary training bases to provide students with main venues for practical training, real-world application, and innovative research. The Experimental Class initially focuses on foundational training, followed by specialization, with options for Electronic Information Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering. Senior students participate in research teams for scientific research training or enter practical training bases to engage in semiconductor-related project development, emphasizing the cultivation of students' independent learning, research-based learning, and practical learning abilities. Simultaneously, the program actively invites academic and industry experts and scholars from the domestic and international semiconductor fields to deliver academic reports, conducts forums and academic salons, and strengthens student exchanges and cooperation both domestically and internationally, as well as between the university and enterprises, striving to cultivate students' forward-looking vision and interdisciplinary collaboration capabilities.
