The Experimental Class of RE Innovative Talent Training Program was established in 2020 by Nanchang University to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech during his inspection of Ganzhou. It is a high-end innovative and outstanding talent training experimental class set up from the perspective of the national rare earth strategy, aiming at the high-end and high-value application of rare earth and meeting the requirements of high-tech and high-quality development of rare earth industry. Based at the Rare Earth Research Institute of Nanchang University, the program leverages the advantages of inter-college and interdisciplinary research platforms in teaching and innovation capacity building, scientific research, and industrialization of research results to cultivate outstanding, innovative, and interdisciplinary talents in the rare earth field. The program offers a continuous undergraduate-master's program, or, after graduation, students can be recommended without examination to pursue further studies in related majors at 985 universities, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Rare Earth Research Institute of Nanchang University. Graduates are encouraged to work in large rare earth enterprises and research units such as China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd and China Northern Rare Earth (Group) High-Tech Co., Ltd, and are supported in starting their own businesses based on innovative technologies. The curriculum reflects interdisciplinary integration and industry-education collaboration. The curriculum features a unified set of foundational courses and rare earth platform courses, strengthening students' foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering. It also includes specialized core courses and interdisciplinary electives tailored to each major, emphasizing professional knowledge and skills development. Furthermore, it includes rare earth industry-specific courses tailored to the rare earth industry chain, cultivating students' industrial knowledge and skills. Personalized instruction and integration of science and education are emphasized. One-on-one mentorship is provided for individualized instruction and development. Distinguished professors are invited to conduct small-group seminars, promoting research-based learning. A "Science Training" course is offered, equipped with excellent experimental facilities, guiding students in early-year research training and cultivating their research and innovation capabilities. Multi-level exchange platforms are established, with over 30 academic activities annually. Industry-university-research practice bases are established in collaboration with leading rare earth enterprises within the province, organizing professional internships. A global perspective and international education are fostered. Leveraging the rich academic resources of Nanchang University, students' academic horizons are broadened. An international education program is implemented, funding students for overseas study and expanding their international perspectives. Continuous exchange and dynamic adjustments are maintained. Students who are not suited to the Experimental Class of RE Innovative Talent Training Program will be subject to rolling withdrawal, and a corresponding number of students will be selected to be added based on the number of withdrawals, so as to maintain the excellence of the Experimental Class and encourage students to devote themselves to learning. |
