The Experimental Class for New Structural Economics at Nanchang University was established in 2020. Relying on the high-quality research and teaching resources of Nanchang University and the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, and supported by the talent cultivation advantages of Nanchang University's Jiluan Academy, the class adheres to the educational philosophy of "integrating science and education, and combining knowledge with practice". It emphasizes student-centered learning, individualized instruction, academic excellence, and personalized development to cultivate top-notch innovative talents in economics. Professor Lin Yifu of Peking University has been appointed as the honorary class advisor, and Professor Liu Yaobin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanchang University and a national-level talent of the Ministry of Education, has been appointed as the class advisor.

    The Experimental Class adheres to the principles of "openness, fairness, and impartiality" and "combining students' college entrance examination scores, comprehensive qualities, and subject-specific strengths". Following the "New Liberal Arts" talent cultivation goal of "broad-based, solid foundation, emphasis on ability, and pursuit of innovation", it aims to cultivate top-tier economics talents with outstanding comprehensive qualities such as social ideals and responsibility, international vision and national sentiment, and a pragmatic and innovative approach, possessing a solid foundation in economic theory and mathematics, as well as the theoretical and practical abilities of new structural economics.

    The Experimental Class insists on personalized, small-class, and internationalized education, implementing a mentorship system, an academy system, and a credit system management model, and establishing a top-tier academic mentor pool. It emphasizes cultivating students' theoretical and practical abilities, giving them more free study time and autonomy in course selection.

    The Experimental Class fully utilizes various disciplinary and social resources to strengthen students' academic and practical abilities, solidly promoting the quality of independent cultivation of top-tier innovative talents in the "New Liberal Arts" of economics. After graduation, students primarily pursue further studies at top domestic and international universities, or enter government and corporate organizations to provide high-quality development decision-making consulting services. The first cohort of students in the experimental class were recommended without examination to prestigious "Double First-Class" universities such as Peking University, Wuhan University, and Nankai University. Students have achieved outstanding results in various academic competitions and research training projects. Relying on national-level innovation and entrepreneurship projects, their research findings have been selected for important academic conferences such as the Chinese Economics Annual Conference, and they have published over 30 papers in important academic journals such as Resources Policy, Cities, Energy Economics, and China Soft Science.
